From the decorating bench of Founder and CBO (Chief Baking Officer) of Borderlands Bakery and My Custom Bakes, Lisa He:

In my ten years of cookie decorating, I spent the first 5 of Borderlands Bakery stumbling my way through custom orders for decorated sugar cookies and french macarons.

Having lived the custom-order strugg-life and talking with thousands of other bakers in the same position, it was clear we needed a tool to make the whole custom ordering process easier.

I can’t tell you how many times I hear “I want to take on more custom orders, but the process with clients takes too long.”

Sure, there are existing tools in the market that get us part of the way there: Google forms, custom websites, Square Space, Wix, Etsy, Honeybook, etc.

The current tools available tend to provide a one-size-fits-all solution to managing product specifications, availability, and quotes. And while I’m all for everyone getting their bag, the cost of these platforms really add up over time and when you do the math, it’s clear that MCB is a top contender.

The problem with that? Everyone has different skill levels and different ways to manage availability—no two people run their business the same way.

And while many of us have adapted to make things work, when it comes to highly customized goods like decorated cookies or cakes, we’ve found many of these tools actually overcomplicate things for us.

For a niche industry like ours, being able to understand the nuances of the process is key.

Which is why My Custom Bakes was created.

I wanted the simplest possible platform that’s easily customizable, streamlines the ordering process, and ultimately saves bakers time so we can all focus on serving our clients, and making more dough.

We got insight from hundreds of other cottage bakeries struggling with the whole process and we’re always adding in new features to make it even EASIER than it already is. There’s a whole community of users that will help you create a shop that works for you, so lean into our group for best practices.

MCB is maintained by 3 of us working part time in addition to our “day” jobs– we’re all cottage bakers with first-hand experience, very dedicated to our community and keep our ears to the ground for the latest happenings in our industry.

We’re a small team, and we plan to stay that way. We have zero investors. No board of directors. Only one developer, a community manager and product manager who has lived every single part of the cottage operation process. Because of our unique position, we can prioritize decisions that truly put our community first.

Like I said, built by bakers, for bakers.

We’re not looking to take over the baking world or home food artisans with MCB.

We’re niche for a reason: to serve our community who specialize in custom work, really well.

So go ahead, give My Custom Bakes a try- I think you’ll find that it really does help save you so much time, freeing you up to focus on the things that you enjoy more.
